Mercedes-Benz EQA (2021-present) Pros and Cons

Pros	Cons
Comfy and luxurious interior	Let down by a small boot
Smooth, swift and relaxing to drive	Expensive compared with a Ford Mustang Mach-E
Great-looking infotainment system	Range could be better

Quick Summary

The Mercedes-Benz EQA is a mid-sized electric SUV crossover that combines premium styling with practical family motoring. Based on the Mercedes GLA, it's currently offered with a 79.8kWh battery pack (66.5kWh usable capacity) and a WLTP range of 252 to 264 miles. Three powertrain options are available: the EQA 250 with 188bhp front-wheel drive, the EQA 300 4Matic with 225bhp, and the EQA 350 4Matic with 288bhp. Real-world range typically reaches 220 to 250 miles in summer, though winter driving and motorway miles can reduce this significantly to under 200 miles.

The EQA excels in interior quality and driving refinement, featuring the intuitive MBUX infotainment system with touchscreen, touchpad, steering wheel controls and voice command. The five-seat cabin offers plush materials and comfortable seating for adults, though boot space of 340 litres is modest compared to rivals like the VW ID.4 and Skoda Enyaq. Running costs are economical, with home charging costing around 5p per mile on standard tariffs. Three trim levels—Sport, AMG Line and AMG Line Premium—offer progressive equipment, with even the entry-level Sport well-equipped with heated seats, LED headlights, climate control and a reversing camera.

Best for: Buyers prioritising premium interior quality, smooth driving dynamics, and advanced technology in an electric family SUV, particularly those valuing Mercedes-Benz's luxury credentials and willing to pay a premium for them.

Not ideal for: Those requiring maximum boot space and practicality, seeking the best value for money compared to non-premium alternatives, or needing extended real-world range in winter conditions.

Comparison vs Key Rivals

The Verdict

You should buy the EQA if: You prioritise premium interior quality, smooth driving dynamics, and advanced technology, and are willing to pay a premium for Mercedes-Benz's luxury credentials and refined driving experience.

Consider alternatives if: You require maximum boot space and practicality, seek the best value for money, or need extended real-world range in winter conditions.

Competitive Position: The Mercedes-Benz EQA is the classiest electric car in its price range, offering a luxurious interior, intuitive infotainment and smooth, accomplished driving dynamics. However, it faces stiff competition from the Tesla Model 3, which scores higher overall, and the Audi Q4 e-tron, which offers better user ratings and value. The VW ID.4 provides more practicality at a lower price point. The EQA's main weakness is its modest boot space and range, which lag behind some rivals. Nevertheless, for buyers seeking premium quality and refinement in an electric family SUV, the EQA delivers a compelling package with competitive finance options and solid residual values.
