Good small SUV, the 220d engine felt correct for the car. Interior fittings more SUV than limo., but liveable. Did not buy as rear seats are too hard for my intended use.

I only had a short test drive, but the car is very comfortable, spacious and ultra modern inside. It drives well and is quiet and refined. If your looking for a smallish 7 seater, it needs to be on your list.

Mercedes-Benz GLB-Class (2019-2025) Pros and Cons
| Pros | Cons |
|---|---|
| Impressive practicality and space | Not especially engaging to drive |
| Seven seats when most rivals have five | Third-row seats are best suited to children |
| Excellent MBUX infotainment system | Versions on larger wheels have a firm ride |
Quick Summary
The Mercedes-Benz GLB-Class (2019-2025) is a premium compact SUV that prioritises practicality over fashion. Based on the same underpinnings as the A-Class and B-Class, the GLB combines relatively compact dimensions with a surprisingly spacious cabin. Its tall, upright and deliberately boxy design stands out in the premium compact SUV market, particularly because it offers the option of seven seats – something still relatively unusual at this size and price point. The GLB features a cabin that feels far roomier and more usable than many alternatives, with excellent visibility and a premium-feeling interior.
The GLB's impressive MBUX infotainment system dominates the dashboard with a pair of 10.25-inch widescreen displays, giving it a far more modern feel than many cars in its class. Diesel engines are the most economical choices, with the GLB 200d capable of returning around 50mpg, whilst petrol models are smoother and quieter around town, achieving around 40mpg. The Mercedes-AMG GLB 35 4Matic variant offers over 300bhp for those seeking more performance. As a used buy, the GLB makes excellent sense thanks to its combination of compact dimensions, premium ambiance and seven-seat practicality.
Best for: Family buyers seeking practicality and space, those wanting seven seats in a premium compact SUV, and buyers prioritising visibility and usability over sporty styling.
Not ideal for: Drivers seeking an engaging or sporty driving experience, those on a tight budget, or buyers who prefer coupe-inspired styling over boxy practicality.
Comparison vs Key Rivals

|---|---|---|---|---|
| Mercedes-Benz GLB-Class | 4/5 | 4.7/5 | 35.6% | 4.2/5 |
| Audi Q3 | 4/5 | 4.3/5 | 33.9% | 4.3/5 |
| Land Rover Discovery Sport | 4/5 | 4.8/5 | 34.1% | 4.5/5 |
| BMW X1 | 4/5 | 4.5/5 | 35.2% | 4.4/5 |
The Verdict
You should buy the GLB-Class if: You're a family buyer seeking practicality and space, wanting seven seats in a premium compact SUV, or prioritising visibility and usability over sporty styling.
Consider alternatives if: You seek an engaging or sporty driving experience, are on a tight budget, or prefer coupe-inspired styling over boxy practicality.
Competitive Position: The Mercedes-Benz GLB-Class is a convincing choice in the premium compact SUV market, scoring highly thanks to its focus on practicality rather than fashion. Whilst many rivals prioritise sleek styling and coupe-like proportions, the GLB delivers exactly what family buyers need: lots of cabin space, excellent visibility and the option of carrying two additional people when required. The impressive MBUX infotainment system, strong safety credentials and premium-feeling interior make it stand out, though it lacks the off-road capability of the Land Rover Discovery Sport or the driving engagement of the BMW X1 and Audi Q3.
