Nissan Juke Mk2 (2020-present) Pros and Cons

Pros	Cons
Distinctive looks	Limited powertrain options
Classy-feeling interior	Rear headroom slightly tight
Competitive boot space	Patchy reliability record

Quick Summary

The Nissan Juke Mk2 is a stylish small crossover SUV that has made a significant leap forward from its predecessor. With its distinctive, eye-catching design, premium-feeling interior featuring soft-touch materials, and improved practicality, it offers a compelling package in the increasingly popular small SUV segment. The cabin is well-appointed with modern technology, including an upgraded 12.3-inch touchscreen from 2024 onwards, and there's reasonable legroom for front and rear passengers, though headroom for taller occupants is somewhat limited. Boot space of around 420 litres is competitive, though hybrid models sacrifice approximately 70 litres due to battery placement.

Powertrain options include a turbocharged 1.0-litre petrol engine with 113bhp or a self-charging petrol-electric hybrid delivering just over 140bhp, both offering reasonable efficiency with real-world fuel economy of low 40s for petrol and around 50mpg for hybrid variants. The driving experience is competent rather than thrilling, with a firm ride that can feel slightly jittery on poor surfaces, though handling is neat and steering feedback is pleasant. Running costs are competitive, with fixed-price servicing available through Nissan. However, the Juke faces stiff competition from rivals offering similar or superior practicality and driving dynamics.

Best for: Buyers prioritising distinctive styling and premium interior quality, those seeking a practical small SUV with modern technology, and drivers wanting efficient hybrid power without sacrificing everyday usability.

Not ideal for: Those requiring maximum rear headroom, buyers seeking diesel efficiency, drivers prioritising engaging handling dynamics, or those concerned about reliability records.

Comparison vs Key Rivals

The Verdict

You should buy the Juke if: You prioritise distinctive styling and premium interior quality, seek a practical small SUV with modern technology, or want efficient hybrid power without sacrificing everyday usability.

Consider alternatives if: You require maximum rear headroom, need diesel efficiency, prioritise engaging handling dynamics, or have concerns about reliability records.

Competitive Position: The Nissan Juke Mk2 is a stylish and well-equipped small SUV that stands out visually in a crowded market. Whilst it offers a classy interior and competitive practicality, it faces strong competition from rivals such as the Volkswagen T-Cross and Renault Captur, which match or exceed it in expert ratings and user satisfaction. The Juke's distinctive design and premium feel are genuine strengths, but buyers should carefully consider whether these advantages outweigh the limited powertrain options and patchy reliability record compared to more conventional rivals. For those sold on its looks and willing to accept its limitations, the Juke remains an engaging choice.
