Nissan Juke (2010-2019) Pros and Cons

Pros	Cons
Quirky looks	Troublesome CVT auto
Well equipped	Cramped in the back
Nismo RS is very quick	Several rivals are more practical

Quick Summary

The Nissan Juke (2010-2019) is a compact crossover that combines the lofty driving position of an SUV with the practicality of a small hatchback. One of the first cars of its type, it prioritises quirky, head-turning styling over functionality. The distinctive sloping roofline limits headroom for rear passengers taller than six feet, and the comparatively small rear door opening makes access tricky. Early models have limited boot space, though facelifted versions from 2014 onwards offer considerably more capacity and movable boot floor panels for improved versatility.

Powered by a range of naturally aspirated and turbocharged diesel and petrol engines, most Jukes are spirited performers with reasonable fuel consumption. The 1.5-litre diesel turbo theoretically achieves 71mpg, though owners report around 60mpg in reality, whilst petrol engines scrape over 40mpg. The Nismo and Nismo RS variants offer hot hatch pretensions with genuine performance. The facelifted 2014 model benefits from improved suspension for a smoother ride. All models come well equipped with air conditioning, traction control, and six airbags as standard. Servicing costs are reasonable at £149 for minor and £219 for major services on petrol models, though some owners have reported clutch and CVT gearbox issues at low mileages.

Best for: Style-conscious buyers seeking a distinctive compact crossover, those wanting an SUV driving position in a smaller package, and buyers interested in the performance-focused Nismo RS variant.

Not ideal for: Buyers prioritising rear passenger space and comfort, those requiring maximum boot capacity, or those seeking the most practical compact crossover on the market.

Comparison vs Key Rivals

The Verdict

You should buy the Juke if: You prioritise distinctive styling, want an SUV driving position in a compact package, or are interested in the performance-focused Nismo RS variant.

Consider alternatives if: You need maximum rear passenger space, require the most practical compact crossover, or prefer a more conventional design.

Competitive Position: The Nissan Juke (2010-2019) stands out in the compact crossover segment for its bold, quirky styling and well-equipped specification. However, it faces stiff competition from more practical rivals like the Skoda Yeti and Renault Captur, which both score higher on expert ratings and offer superior practicality. The Juke's appeal lies primarily in its distinctive looks and the thrilling Nismo RS variant, making it ideal for style-conscious buyers willing to compromise on rear space and boot capacity. For those prioritising practicality and comfort, alternatives offer better value and functionality.
