Being 84 and somewhat disabled, I have reduced my driving considerably. I like the simplicity and smallness of the Peugeot 107. I need the 5-door version because I cannot lift the shopping out of the boot. I had no longer use the keypad magic, preferring a manual lock.

Peugeot 107 (2005-2014) Pros and Cons
| Pros | Cons |
|---|---|
| Simple to drive and easy to park | Lots of wind and road noise at speed |
| Very cheap to buy and run | Jerky 2-Tronic automatic |
| Perky looks | Entry-level cars are very basic |
Quick Summary
The Peugeot 107 (2005-2014) is an entry-level city car that prioritises low running costs and reliability over luxury and practicality. Sharing its robust engine and transmission with the Toyota Aygo, the 107 is a dependable small car that rarely lets you down. With compact dimensions and a back-to-basics approach, it excels in urban environments where its nippy handling and light steering make parking and manoeuvring effortless. The 1.0-litre three-cylinder petrol engine produces just 68bhp, but the car's lightweight construction means it feels surprisingly responsive around town.
Running costs are exceptionally low, with official fuel economy of 61.4mpg (later cars achieving 65mpg) and real-world returns easily exceeding 50mpg. Vehicle excise duty is minimal at no more than £30 annually, whilst insurance groupings range from 3 to 5 out of 50, making it particularly appealing to younger drivers. Servicing costs are modest, with interim services under £100 at Peugeot dealers. However, the 107 sacrifices practicality for affordability: boot space is just 139-litres, rear legroom is tight, and there's no glove box. Engine noise is pronounced, and wind and road noise at motorway speeds can be intrusive. Despite these limitations, it remains an excellent budget option for urban commuters.
Best for: Budget-conscious buyers, first-time car owners, urban commuters, and those seeking minimal running costs and insurance premiums.
Not ideal for: Families needing spacious interiors, drivers covering long motorway distances, or those prioritising comfort and refinement over economy.

|---|---|---|---|---|
| Peugeot 107 | 3/5 | 4.5/5 | 28.9% | 4.0/5 |

| Skoda Citigo | 5/5 | 4.0/5 | 36.1% | 4.3/5 |
The Verdict
You should buy the 107 if: You're a budget-conscious buyer, a first-time car owner, an urban commuter, or seeking minimal running costs and insurance premiums.
Consider alternatives if: You need spacious interiors, plan to cover long motorway distances, or prioritise comfort and refinement over economy.
Competitive Position: The Peugeot 107 (2005-2014) is an excellent budget city car offering exceptional value and minimal running costs. Whilst the Skoda Citigo scores higher overall and the Seat Mii offers better value deals, the 107 remains highly competitive for buyers prioritising affordability. The Fiat 500 holds its value better but costs more to buy and run. The 107's simplicity, reliability (thanks to its Toyota-derived engine), and rock-bottom purchase price make it an outstanding choice for urban drivers and first-time buyers willing to sacrifice space and refinement for economy.
