Peugeot 208 (2019-present) Pros and Cons

| Comfortable and quiet | Only scored four out of five in Euro NCAP tests |
| Impressive battery-electric version | Quite pricey as a new car |
Quick Summary
The second-generation Peugeot 208, launched in 2019, is a stylish and modern five-door supermini that stands out in a competitive segment. Built on a new CMP platform, it offers a choice of powertrains including an all-electric e-208. While not the largest in its class, it provides good front-row space and adequate room for children in the rear, with a 311-litre boot that expands to 1,106 litres with the rear seats folded. Its distinctive design and overhauled interior, featuring Peugeot's i-Cockpit, give it a premium feel.
On the road, the 208 is comfortable and refined, providing a smooth ride, though it's not as agile as some rivals like the Ford Fiesta. Engine options include a 1.2-litre PureTech petrol with various outputs and a 1.5-litre BlueHDi diesel, with the e-208 offering a lively 134bhp electric drivetrain. Running costs are generally low across the range, with competitive fuel economy for petrol and diesel models, and reduced servicing needs for the e-208. It offers a well-equipped interior, though the infotainment system can be slow.
Best for: Buyers prioritising distinctive style, a comfortable and refined ride, and those seeking an impressive all-electric option in the supermini segment.
Not ideal for: Drivers who prioritise ultimate agility and driving engagement (like a Ford Fiesta), or those on a very strict budget for a new car.
Comparison vs Key Rivals
| Vehicle | CarGurus Expert Rating | CarGurus User Rating | Good/Great deals % | Overall CarGurus Rating |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Peugeot 208 | 4/5 | 4.6/5 | 28.6% | 4.4/5 |
| Seat Ibiza | 4/5 | 4.6/5 | 29.1% | 4.4/5 |

| Renault Clio | 3/5 | 4.3/5 | 32.1% | 4.3/5 |
The Verdict
You should buy the 208 if: You are drawn to its distinctive looks, appreciate a comfortable and refined driving experience, or are looking for a competitive all-electric supermini option.
Consider alternatives if: You prioritise the most engaging driving dynamics (like a Ford Fiesta), or if budget and warranty are your primary concerns (consider Kia Rio or Hyundai i20).
Competitive Position: The Peugeot 208 (2019-present) stands out in the supermini segment with its sharp styling and premium feel. While it may not offer the ultimate driving thrills of a Ford Fiesta, its comfortable ride, modern interior, and the availability of an impressive all-electric e-208 variant make it a strong contender. It offers good value for its upmarket presentation, though it can be pricier as a new car compared to some rivals.

4.7 Overall rating
(21 reviews)Great car very economical perfect for city driving
Excellent build quality and a pleasure to drive. Lots of great features like the 3D Dash display, nicely laid out Plenty of performance from the relatively small engine. 99 positives 1 negative is that the foot pedals are a little too close together. All in all a brilliant little car
Very spacious car, sensibly priced, quiet, comfortable, and fuel efficient.
This is my 2nd 208. I have a 2018 208gtlne as well. I have driven lots of cars and vans over the last 40 years including Teslas and hybrids. Quite simply the 208 is the best used medium size hatchback on the market. The new 208 is even better.
Great small car, nippy and smart ideal for learner driver I think
