Excellent build quality and a pleasure to drive. Lots of great features like the 3D Dash display, nicely laid out Plenty of performance from the relatively small engine. 99 positives 1 negative is that the foot pedals are a little too close together. All in all a brilliant little car

This is my 2nd 208. I have a 2018 208gtlne as well. I have driven lots of cars and vans over the last 40 years including Teslas and hybrids. Quite simply the 208 is the best used medium size hatchback on the market. The new 208 is even better.

Peugeot 208 Pros and Cons

Quick Summary
The Peugeot 208 is a stylish and appealing supermini that has long been a popular choice in its class. The latest generation, originally launched in 2019 and facelifted in late 2023, continues to attract buyers with its distinctive Gallic design, agile handling characteristics, and affordable running costs. It offers a choice of powertrains including a turbocharged petrol engine, mild-hybrid options, and two battery-electric variants, providing flexibility for different driving needs and budgets. The interior is modern and attractive, featuring Peugeot's distinctive i-Cockpit driving position with a small steering wheel and high-mounted instruments, though this may feel unusual to those unfamiliar with the brand.
Practicality is adequate rather than exceptional, with a 352-litre boot and limited rear-seat space that suits couples or small families better than those regularly carrying tall passengers. The 208 delivers a comfortable driving experience with crisp body control and good grip, though the ride can feel firm on larger wheels and the handling lacks the engaging feel of some rivals. Running costs are reasonable, with the petrol engines delivering around 40-65mpg depending on specification. Whilst reliability ratings for the 208 are mixed, the electric version benefits from extended warranty coverage when serviced at Peugeot dealers. Overall, the 208 represents a convincing choice for style-conscious buyers seeking an efficient and well-equipped supermini.
Best for: Buyers prioritising style and design, those seeking an efficient supermini with modern technology, and drivers interested in an affordable electric vehicle option.
Not ideal for: Those requiring maximum practicality and rear-seat space, drivers wanting engaging handling dynamics, or buyers seeking the lowest purchase price in the supermini segment.
Comparison vs Key Rivals

|---|---|---|---|---|
| Peugeot 208 | 3/5 | 5.0/5 | 35.9% | 4.3/5 |
| Renault Clio | 3/5 | 4.7/5 | 37.4% | 4.3/5 |
| Volkswagen Polo | 4/5 | 4.5/5 | 34.5% | 4.5/5 |
| Toyota Yaris | 4/5 | 4.7/5 | 32.9% | 4.5/5 |
The Verdict
You should buy the 208 if: You prioritise style and design, seek an efficient supermini with modern technology, or are interested in an affordable electric vehicle option.
Consider alternatives if: You require maximum practicality and rear-seat space, want engaging handling dynamics, or are seeking the lowest purchase price in the supermini segment.
Competitive Position: The Peugeot 208 is a stylish and convincing contender in the supermini market, offering distinctive design, modern technology, and a choice of powertrains including an impressive electric option. Whilst it may not match the Volkswagen Polo for premium feel or the Toyota Yaris for reliability, its sharp looks, comfortable interior, and affordable running costs make it an appealing choice for style-conscious buyers. The Renault Clio offers similar appeal with slightly better value, whilst the Polo and Yaris provide stronger overall ratings and more engaging driving dynamics. The 208 remains a compelling option for those prioritising aesthetics and modern features over outright practicality or handling engagement.
