Peugeot RCZ (2009-2015) Pros and Cons
| Pros | Cons |
|---|---|
| Entertaining to drive | Cramped rear seats |
| Surprisingly practical for a coupe | Some reliability issues |
| The RCZ R is very quick | The looks aren't to all tastes |
Quick Summary
The Peugeot RCZ (2009-2015) is a stylish 2+2 coupe that debuted as a concept and made it to production largely unchanged, based on the Peugeot 308 hatchback. It offers a striking design with its ‘double bubble’ roof and 'roof arches', setting it apart from contemporary Peugeots. Available with 1.6-litre turbocharged petrol engines (THP156, THP200, and the potent 266bhp RCZ R) and a 2.0-litre HDi turbodiesel, it offers a range of performance and economy options, with the diesel achieving around 54mpg. While not chosen for practicality, it boasts a useful 384-litre boot and is surprisingly entertaining to drive, especially the RCZ R.
Despite sharing its dashboard with the 308, the RCZ features higher-grade materials, though storage is limited and its infotainment system feels dated. Running costs are relatively low for a sports coupe due to its shared underpinnings, with fixed-price servicing available. Dynamically, it's considered the best-handling Peugeot of its era, offering a sporty and involving front-wheel-drive experience, though the ride is firm. The RCZ remains an attractive proposition on the used market, offering unique styling and driving thrills.
Best for: Drivers prioritising unique style and engaging driving, those seeking an affordable sports coupe with decent boot space, and buyers looking for an accessible high-performance option (RCZ R).
Not ideal for: Buyers needing genuine rear passenger space, those prioritising modern in-car technology and storage, or those sensitive to a firm ride.
Comparison vs Key Rivals
| Vehicle | CarGurus Expert Rating | CarGurus User Rating | Good/Great deals % | Overall CarGurus Rating |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Peugeot RCZ | 4/5 | 4.8/5 | 28.8% | 4.2/5 |

| Volkswagen Scirocco | 4/5 | 4.5/5 | 31.7% | 4.2/5 |
The Verdict
You should buy the RCZ if: You're looking for a stylish, engaging, and relatively affordable sports coupe with a practical boot, or if the high-performance RCZ R appeals.
Consider alternatives if: You require spacious rear seats, modern infotainment and storage solutions, or prefer a softer ride.
Competitive Position: The Peugeot RCZ (2009-2015) carved out a unique niche in the sports coupe market, offering distinctive styling and engaging driving dynamics that were uncommon for Peugeot at the time. While it might not match rivals like the Audi TT for premium interior refinement or the Volkswagen Scirocco for all-round practicality, its unique aesthetic, strong performance options (especially the RCZ R), and relatively low running costs make it a compelling choice for buyers seeking character and driving fun on a budget. Its shared underpinnings also contribute to more accessible maintenance compared to some exotic alternatives.

Fabulous car, very clean, wonderful to drive. I love it
It has a sleek appearance. It has nippy performance. It has plenty of driver room for a sporty car. You cant drive with the top down like a BMW Z3 or Z4. But the roof is more solid!!!!
Great car 1.6 engine very quick very responsive grips the road very well comfortable brilliant little car ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Absolutely stunning vehicle, turns heads everywhere, with the 4 pot exhaust it’s looks are incredible. Performance wise more than satisfactory and lovely to drive. Well recommended
