Porsche Cayenne (2018-present) Pros and Cons
| Pros | Cons |
|---|---|
| Brilliant to drive | Divisive styling |
| Tremendous performance | Costly to run |
| Spacious and practical | The smaller Porsche Macan is more agile |
Quick Summary
The third-generation Porsche Cayenne (2018-present) is a high-performance SUV designed for buyers seeking an upmarket experience. Launched in 2017, it received a new platform, fresh turbocharged V6 engines, modern aesthetics, and significant weight reduction (up to 65kg) despite increased size. This led to a more practical vehicle with a spacious interior and larger boot. Initially offered with 3.0-litre V6 (335bhp) and 2.9-litre twin-turbo V6 (435bhp) engines, the range expanded to include the powerful Turbo, efficient E-Hybrid, motorsport-inspired GTS, and the sleeker Coupe variant, culminating in the track-focused GT model.
The Cayenne excels in combining SUV practicality and comfort with genuine driving thrills. Its impressive performance ranges from 0-62mph in 6.2 seconds for the entry-level model to 3.8 seconds for the Turbo S E-Hybrid. It handles corners with remarkable agility for its size, thanks to quick steering, strong grip, and advanced air suspension, making it feel more like a hot hatch. Despite its high running costs, especially for petrol variants, the E-Hybrid offers better fuel economy. Overall, it's a high-quality, rewarding, and versatile SUV that effortlessly tackles daily life while offering an engaging driving experience.
Best for: Drivers who want an upmarket, high-performance SUV with exceptional driving dynamics and comfort, families needing spacious and practical transport, and those seeking a rewarding daily driver or an exhilarating hot SUV (GT).
Not ideal for: Budget-conscious buyers concerned about high running costs (fuel, VED, options), those who expect extensive standard features rather than relying on expensive options, or buyers who find its large size a disadvantage (a smaller Porsche Macan might be preferred).

The Verdict
You should buy the Cayenne if: You're seeking an upmarket, high-performance SUV that is rewarding to drive, quick, spacious, practical, and easy to live with, including an exciting hot SUV (GT).
Consider alternatives if: You are budget-conscious regarding high running costs (fuel, VED, options), expect extensive standard features, or find its large size a drawback (consider the smaller Porsche Macan).
Competitive Position: The Porsche Cayenne (2018-present) is a highly talented contender in the luxury SUV market. It offers an exceptional blend of engaging driving dynamics, tremendous performance, and everyday practicality. While its running costs are high and standard equipment can be modest for the price, its overall appeal, breadth of models (from efficient E-Hybrid to powerful Turbo S E-Hybrid and track-focused GT), and strong residual values make it a compelling choice. It stands as a strong rival to vehicles like the BMW X5, Range Rover Sport, and Mercedes-Benz GLE, and in its top trims, can even challenge ultra-luxury SUVs.

4.5 Overall rating
(10 reviews)Drives well, good fuel economy for the weight considering it’s petrol powered. Rather rapid, very well built.
The only thing I can fault on this amazing machine is the Bluetooth media player occasionally doesnt connect but it just gives you another reason to wind down the windows and listen to the symphony produced by Porsches amazing 4.8 GTS V8
comfortable and luxurious interior, build quality and surprisingly good fuel consumption.
A bit pricey considering the wear & tear of the car.
Comfortable always great spec and power where needed as you would expect from porche
