Porsche Macan Pros and Cons

| Lovely driving dynamics across the board | Option of a diesel engine was dropped in 2018 |
Quick Summary
The Porsche Macan delivers a sporty and engaging driving experience across its range, from the 2.0-litre four-cylinder base model to the powerful 2.9-litre twin-turbo V6 in the S and GTS versions. All models feature all-wheel drive and class-leading roadholding, making it a joy to drive. The cabin boasts superb build quality and premium materials, offering a comfortable driving position. While front-seat occupants enjoy luxury, rear-seat space is somewhat limited for adults, making it feel more like a four-seater. The boot provides a respectable 458 litres, expanding to 1,503 litres with the seats folded, offering decent practicality for its class.
Standard equipment is generous, including LED headlights, three-zone climate control, parking sensors, and a powered tailgate, with post-2021 models featuring an excellent 10.9-inch touchscreen infotainment system with Apple CarPlay. Despite Porsche's reputation for expensive options, many used Macans come well-specified. Running costs include higher-than-average servicing fees and a £425 annual road tax surcharge for most models. Fuel efficiency ranges from 26.4-27.9mpg for the 2.0-litre models. The Macan retains strong residual values, ensuring it remains a desirable and valuable used car, offering an accessible entry into Porsche ownership.
Best for: Drivers who prioritise a sporty, engaging SUV with premium build quality and strong residual values. Buyers seeking a luxurious compact SUV that's genuinely fun to drive, or an accessible entry point into the Porsche brand.
Not ideal for: Those needing maximum rear passenger space or ultimate fuel economy. Buyers on a strict budget for servicing and running costs, or those who prefer a softer, more comfort-oriented ride.

Consider alternatives if: You need maximum rear passenger space or ultimate fuel economy. You're on a strict budget for servicing and running costs, or prefer a softer, more comfort-oriented ride.
Competitive Position: The Porsche Macan stands out in the mid-size SUV segment for its exceptional driving dynamics and premium feel, often compared favourably to rivals like the Audi Q5, BMW X3, and Mercedes-Benz GLC-Class. While it might concede some rear passenger practicality to competitors, its superb build quality, strong performance across all variants, and excellent residual values make it a highly desirable choice. It offers a unique blend of luxury, sportiness, and brand prestige, making it a compelling option for those who want an SUV that truly excites on the road. The Macan successfully carves out a niche as the driver's choice in its class.

4.5 Overall rating
(14 reviews)Great SUV , well built drives brilliantly and in my opinion the best SUV on the road
Excellent car all the luxury I’ve grown to expect in my new car Diesel engine too so economical also
An SUV that drives like a sports car, brilliant Road holding for such a large car.
Holds it value better than any other SUV , stylish and lots of guts . Expense !!
The car is older than i would like, it has many additional features that I wanted, The mileage is reasonable. The long term use will prove whether it is worth paying so much for a Porsche.
