The features are great, absolutely nothing missing. There’s heated rear seats, and an electric tow bar not mentioned in the ad.

Very happy with the car, good value for the money, and reminds me of a smaller version of the sport

My 2021 Range Rover R-Dynamic P400e Velar SE performs magnificently on all terrains and in all weathers. The in-line turbocharged 4-cylibder 2.0 litre engine, combined with its rear axled electric motor provides a 400bhp punch. Driving the vehicle is a joy, the Velars exterior looks the part, bronze copper trimming from bonnet mounted air intakes, extenuating under the wing mirrors via the front wheel panels onto the the 2-front doors is pure class. The aerodynamics are aesthetic with thedoor handles conceal themselves into the vehicle on locking or driving off. The rear top fender, not only looks great, its purpose is to actually prevent wind resistance. The interior matches the vehicles exterior..brilliant. Mine is a twin-screened mount and its digital graphics or sharp 3-D images. The smooth leather bound steering wheel is class and its function buttons are easy-accessed. The ebony veneer with the silver metal that lines the counselling is gorgeous. The seats are a master class in comfort and build, the carpeting is rich too. A large boot, my Velar has it all. I would highly recommend any prospective buyer, considering a large luxurious PHEV, with good fuel economy, combined with performance, to go ahead and look the Velar P400e over.

Range Rover Velar (2017-present) Pros and Cons
| Pros | Cons |
|---|---|
| Effortless and refined performance | Iffy reliability record |
| Stylish and imposing looks | Top-spec models are expensive |
| Plug-in hybrid is affordable to run if recharged regularly | A Porsche Macan S is sharper to drive and more affordable |
Quick Summary
The Range Rover Velar (2017-present) is a stylish and sophisticated mid-size premium SUV that sits between the Range Rover Evoque and Range Rover Sport. Launched in 2017 and updated in 2023, it offers buyers the appeal of a Range Rover in a more accessible and compact package. With 632 litres of boot space, excellent front-seat accommodation, and a fantastic driving position with 14-way electrically adjustable seats, the Velar prioritises comfort and refinement. The 2023 facelift introduced the improved Pivi Pro infotainment system, replacing the earlier dual-screen layout with a more intuitive single touchscreen.
The Velar delivers effortless and refined driving dynamics, with a smooth eight-speed automatic transmission and optional air suspension that provides a pillowy, comfortable ride. Engine options include 2.0-litre diesels, a supercharged 3.0-litre V6 petrol, mild-hybrid variants, and a plug-in hybrid P400e with up to 40 miles of electric-only range. Diesel versions achieve around 40mpg in real-world driving, whilst the P400e is affordable to run if regularly recharged. However, potential reliability concerns and high running costs, including insurance and VED premiums, should be considered. The Velar is well-equipped with safety features and offers genuine off-road credentials through Land Rover's Terrain Response system.
Best for: Buyers seeking a stylish, comfortable, and well-equipped premium SUV with genuine off-road capability, and those who value refined, effortless driving dynamics.
Not ideal for: Those prioritising sharp handling (rivals like the Porsche Macan are keener to drive), budget-conscious buyers concerned about reliability, or those seeking maximum rear-seat space (the Audi Q5 and BMW X5 are more spacious).
Comparison vs Key Rivals
| Vehicle | CarGurus Expert Rating | CarGurus User Rating | Good/Great deals % | Overall CarGurus Rating |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Range Rover Velar | 3/5 | 5.0/5 | 35.5% | 4.3/5 |
| Porsche Macan | 4/5 | 4.8/5 | 32.9% | 4.4/5 |
| BMW X5 | 5/5 | 4.3/5 | 33.1% | 4.5/5 |
| Audi Q5 | 4/5 | 4.3/5 | 32.9% | 4.4/5 |
The Verdict
You should buy the Velar if: You seek a stylish, comfortable, and well-equipped premium SUV with genuine off-road capability, and value refined, effortless driving dynamics.
Consider alternatives if: You prioritise sharp handling, are concerned about reliability, or require maximum rear-seat space and better value for money.
Competitive Position: The Range Rover Velar is an appealing and stylish mid-size premium SUV that delivers on comfort, refinement, and equipment. Whilst it may not match the BMW X5 for overall quality or the Porsche Macan for driving sharpness, the Velar's distinctive styling, effortless performance, and genuine off-road credentials make it a compelling choice for those seeking a sophisticated and capable SUV. However, potential reliability concerns and high running costs mean it's worth careful consideration against rivals, particularly the more affordable Porsche Macan S or the more spacious Audi Q5 and BMW X5.
