Vauxhall Mokka (2021-present) Pros and Cons
| Pros | Cons |
|---|---|
| Funky to look at | Not the most practical car of its type |
| Punchy petrol engine | Some interior panels don't impress on quality |
| Most trim levels have decent kit | Many rivals are better on the road |
Quick Summary
The Vauxhall Mokka (2021-present) is a stylish small SUV that prioritises eye-catching design over practicality. Its angular, distinctive exterior is matched by an equally jazzy interior with modern touchscreen infotainment and digital instrumentation. Standard equipment is generous across most trim levels, including alloy wheels, air-conditioning, cruise control, LED lighting, and automatic emergency braking. However, some interior panels lack quality, and rear headroom can be tight for taller occupants. Boot space of 350 litres is reasonable, though a hefty lip and large step when folding seats can prove inconvenient.
The driving experience is competent but unremarkable. The more powerful 1.2-litre petrol engine delivers strong, smooth performance, whilst the optional eight-speed automatic gearbox impresses with fuss-free gear changes. The all-electric Mokka-e offers compelling performance with quieter, more considered acceleration. Ride quality is slightly firm, with some road noise on motorways, though the Mokka-e feels more settled. Steering is oddly characterised, being slow around the straight-ahead but quick once engaged, requiring frequent corrections. Running costs are competitive, with petrol versions achieving around 45mpg in real-world driving and diesel around 57mpg. The Mokka-e incurs no road tax, offering significant savings for company car drivers.
Best for: Buyers prioritising striking design and kerbside appeal, those seeking a stylish small SUV with modern technology, and company car drivers considering the electric Mokka-e variant.
Not ideal for: Those requiring maximum practicality and rear space, buyers seeking superior build quality throughout, or drivers prioritising engaging handling and road dynamics.
Comparison vs Key Rivals
| Vehicle | CarGurus Expert Rating | CarGurus User Rating | Good/Great deals % | Overall CarGurus Rating |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Vauxhall Mokka | 3/5 | 4.8/5 | 33.5% | 4.2/5 |
| Ford Puma | 5/5 | 3.9/5 | 32.5% | 4.5/5 |
| Volkswagen T-Cross | 4/5 | 4.0/5 | 35.9% | 4.3/5 |
| Peugeot 2008 | 4/5 | 4.0/5 | 33.6% | 4.2/5 |
The Verdict
You should buy the Mokka if: You prioritise striking design and kerbside appeal, seek a stylish small SUV with modern technology, or are a company car driver considering the electric Mokka-e variant.
Consider alternatives if: You require maximum practicality and rear space, prioritise superior build quality throughout, or seek engaging handling and superior road dynamics.
Competitive Position: The Vauxhall Mokka (2021-present) stands out in the small SUV segment for its distinctive, funky styling and generous standard equipment. However, it faces stiff competition from more accomplished rivals. The Ford Puma scores higher on expert ratings and overall CarGurus rating, offering superior driving dynamics. The Volkswagen T-Cross provides better value for money and practicality, whilst the Peugeot 2008 matches the Mokka's overall appeal. For buyers willing to sacrifice some practicality and interior quality for eye-catching design and modern technology, the Mokka remains a compelling choice, particularly the electric variant for company car drivers.

What people say
Good size overall, big boot for the size of car. Very comfortable to drive.
Great find and brilliant value. Lovely comfortable family vehicle
Great value, has all the features you need such as heated seats, revers camera etc plus filly electric. The Mokka E I bought was great value for money and cheaper than a petrol version.
I Love the look of this car but the lack of space in rear made my decision to not buy this car. Its is too small for teenagers or adults to sit comfortably on long journeys
Very nice Mokka with all leather interior. Just felt too big to handle for me and clutch a bit heavy. Bought fiat 500 X instead and very pleased
