Vauxhall Viva (2015-2019) Pros and Cons
| Pros | Cons |
|---|---|
| A very affordable used buy | Many rivals are more practical |
| Easy to drive | So-so warranty offering |
| Decent equipment | Feels bland compared with many cars in the class |
Quick Summary
The Vauxhall Viva (2015-2019) is a five-door city car introduced as a smaller, more affordable alternative to Vauxhall's Adam and Corsa. It competently rivalled cars like the Ford Ka+, Hyundai i10, and Kia Picanto. Despite its compact size, it offers good practicality with space for four adults and 60/40 split-folding rear seats, though its 206-litre boot is smaller than some competitors. It's an easy car to drive with light controls and a composed ride, but its 1.0-litre engine can feel underpowered on faster roads, making it best suited for urban driving and shorter trips.
The Viva came with decent standard equipment, even in the entry-level SE trim, including cruise control, lane departure warning, and six airbags, with air conditioning as an option. Running costs are low, with the 74bhp 1.0i petrol engine achieving around 50mpg in real-world driving. Servicing is straightforward due to its timing chain engine, and road tax can be very low for pre-2017 models. While it struggled to stand out against new rivals, as a used car, it represents excellent value, offering a neat, well-equipped city car for budget-conscious buyers.
Best for: Drivers on a budget, those needing a sensible, practical city car for around-town work and short trips.
Not ideal for: Buyers prioritising larger boot space, powerful engines for longer drives, a more engaging driving experience, or a longer standard warranty.

The Verdict
You should buy the Viva if: You're on a budget, seeking a sensible, practical city car for around-town work and short trips, and appreciate decent equipment for the price.
Consider alternatives if: You need a larger boot, a more powerful engine for longer drives, a more engaging driving experience, or a longer standard warranty.
Competitive Position: The Vauxhall Viva (2015-2019) offers excellent value as a used city car, providing a well-equipped and easy-to-drive option for budget-conscious buyers. While it faced stiff competition when new from rivals like the Kia Picanto (for warranty) and Volkswagen Up (for driving dynamics and boot space), its affordability and low running costs make it a strong contender for those primarily needing a compact car for urban environments.

4 Overall rating
(2 reviews)Car was easy to drive but Im used to a Panda so prefer to be higher up. However, decent car in my opinion but not for me.
i bought a 2016 viva in april 2021 and it is a great little car cheap to insure run and tax, £20 a year on the motorway you have to use the gearbox quite a lot to keep the speed up though. one drawback:the radio is crap poor reception and no cd player which is annoying. i had a better radio cd player in my 2006 astra than i have in the viva. overall though i would recommend the viva a sensible purchase if you are looking for a cheap car very pleased with it .thankyou yours sincerely colin
