BMW i4 (2021-present) Pros and Cons
| Pros | Cons |
|---|---|
| Rewarding and comfortable to drive | Not as well equipped as some rivals |
| High-quality interior | Rear-seat space could be better |
| M60 offers explosive performance | Expensive to buy |
Quick Summary
The BMW i4 is a fully electric version of the 4 Series Gran Coupe, designed for buyers seeking an electric car that maintains traditional BMW styling, quality, and driving dynamics. The line-up comprises three powertrains: the entry-level eDrive35 with a 67.1kWh battery offering 299 miles of range, the mid-range eDrive40 with an 81.1kWh battery delivering 365 miles, and the high-performance M60 with dual motors, four-wheel drive, and a 3.7-second 0-62mph time. All models combine sharp handling with refined comfort, making the i4 one of the best driver's cars in the executive electric class.
Practicality is adequate for four adults, though rear legroom is limited and the sloping roofline can feel restrictive. The 470-litre boot with hatchback opening and 40:20:40 folding rear seats suits most family needs, though taller items may be tight. Running costs are excellent with home charging, especially on off-peak tariffs, though public charging reduces savings significantly. The i4 is more expensive than rivals like the Tesla Model 3 and Polestar 2, and standard equipment lags behind competitors, but superior driving dynamics and residual values justify the premium for discerning buyers.
Best for: Drivers prioritising engaging handling and comfort, those with home charging capability, and buyers seeking premium electric performance without sacrificing traditional BMW quality.
Not ideal for: Budget-conscious buyers, those needing maximum rear-seat space, or customers expecting comprehensive standard equipment packages.

The Verdict
You should buy the i4 if: You prioritise engaging handling and comfort, have home charging capability, and seek premium electric performance without sacrificing traditional BMW quality.
Consider alternatives if: You're budget-conscious, need maximum rear-seat space, or expect comprehensive standard equipment packages.
Competitive Position: The BMW i4 is the most complete and satisfying mid-size executive electric car available. Whilst the Tesla Model 3 offers better value and the Kia EV6 provides superior practicality and user satisfaction, the i4 excels in driving dynamics and refinement. Its superior ride, handling, and driving position outmatch the Polestar 2, though it commands a premium price. For discerning drivers willing to invest in quality and performance, the i4 remains the benchmark in its class, delivering the most rewarding ownership experience despite higher costs and modest standard equipment levels.

3 Overall rating
(1 reviews)Very high price compared to its petrol version with same exterior design why would we should pay 20k extra for electric vehicles while we wont be able to safe that much over the lifespan of car it self l, specially now when electricity prices are .35p per kilowatt with cap without cap it can be 70p so if we do maths here we are gonna end up spending more on charging than filing petrol and all that with 40% more expensive car and hassle of charge
