Chery Tiggo 8 Pros and Cons

Pros	Cons
Phenomenal value for money	Not brilliant on ergonomics
Fantastic standard equipment	A little unpolished dynamically
Genuinely pleasant interior quality	Touchscreen interface could be more intuitive

Quick Summary

The Chery Tiggo 8 is a seven-seater family SUV that delivers exceptional value for money. At around £28,600 for the petrol version and £33,600 for the plug-in hybrid, it undercuts comparable rivals by five figures whilst offering impressive standard equipment, smart styling, and a genuinely pleasant interior. The car provides proper everyday practicality with genuine space for seven occupants, including a third row with adequate headroom and legroom when the middle row is positioned correctly. Boot space ranges from 117 litres with all seats in use to 1,930 litres with seats folded flat.

The plug-in hybrid powertrain delivers 201bhp with a respectable 56-mile electric-only range, whilst the entry-level 1.6-litre petrol offers 145bhp. Both provide adequate performance for family duties, though the driving experience is characterised by a soft, comfortable ride rather than sharp handling. The infotainment system, whilst feature-rich, requires some navigation through touchscreen menus for basic functions. Despite minor shortcomings in ergonomics and dynamic polish, the Tiggo 8 represents outstanding value for budget-conscious families seeking genuine seven-seat practicality and comprehensive equipment levels.

Best for: Budget-conscious families needing genuine seven-seat practicality, buyers seeking maximum standard equipment, and those prioritising value for money over premium badge appeal.

Not ideal for: Drivers prioritising sharp handling dynamics, those seeking premium interior ergonomics, or buyers requiring the most spacious seven-seater available.

Comparison vs Key Rivals

The Verdict

You should buy the Tiggo 8 if: You're a budget-conscious family needing genuine seven-seat practicality, seeking maximum standard equipment, or prioritising value for money over premium badge appeal.

Consider alternatives if: You prioritise sharp handling dynamics, require premium interior ergonomics, or need the most spacious seven-seater available.

Competitive Position: The Chery Tiggo 8 occupies a unique position in the seven-seater SUV market, delivering phenomenal value that undercuts established rivals by thousands of pounds. Whilst the Skoda Kodiaq, Nissan X-Trail, and Hyundai Santa Fe offer superior refinement, more spacious interiors, and higher CarGurus ratings, the Tiggo 8 provides genuine practicality and comprehensive equipment at a fraction of the cost. For budget-conscious families willing to accept minor compromises in ergonomics and dynamic polish, the Tiggo 8 represents outstanding value. Those prioritising premium feel and maximum space should consider the alternatives, but for sheer value proposition, the Chery is difficult to ignore.
