Honda CR-V (2017-2023) Pros and Cons
| Pros | Cons |
|---|---|
| The CR-V is a very reliable family SUV | Fiddly infotainment system |
| Very good fuel economy if you choose the hybrid | Seven-seat models have less luggage space |
| Practical and roomy cabin | Top-spec cars are expensive |
Quick Summary
The fifth-generation Honda CR-V (2017-2023) is a large, practical, and safe family SUV, offering a comfortable and refined driving experience. It provides vast interior space, comfortably accommodating three adults in the second row, and boasts generous equipment levels, including advanced safety systems that earned it a five-star Euro NCAP rating. The frugal hybrid model is a significant draw, particularly for urban use.
While the CR-V faces fierce competition, its key strengths lie in its reliability and overall sensible appeal. However, its infotainment system can feel dated, and seven-seat versions compromise boot space when all seats are in use. Petrol engine efficiency is adequate but may not match diesel rivals for high-mileage drivers. Despite these points, the CR-V remains a strong contender for families prioritising comfort, safety, and a well-equipped package.
Best for: Families needing a practical, safe, and spacious SUV; buyers prioritising reliability and a comfortable ride; those looking for a frugal hybrid SUV for urban driving.
Not ideal for: Drivers seeking the most engaging driving dynamics or a premium infotainment experience; those needing a truly spacious seven-seater with ample boot space when all seats are in use; high-mileage drivers who prefer diesel efficiency.

The Verdict

Consider alternatives if: You're seeking the most engaging driving dynamics or a premium infotainment experience, you need a truly spacious seven-seater with ample boot space when all seats are in use, or you're a high-mileage driver who prefers diesel efficiency.
Competitive Position: The Honda CR-V (2017-2023) is a comfortable, practical, and safe SUV that holds its own in a highly competitive market. While its infotainment system and petrol engine efficiency may not lead the class, its reliability, spacious interior, generous equipment, and the strong appeal of its hybrid option make it a sensible choice for families. It offers a well-rounded package for those prioritising comfort and safety over cutting-edge tech or ultimate driving engagement.

The CRV is a good touring car, economical, reliable & a good car for towing caravans, not many modern cars have these attributes. I have driven Hondas both cars & motorcycles and found them excellent.
Basically it is a Honda and will do @ 250,000 miles. It has all the extras and more. There is no comparable car to beat it.
A very good car build quality is great. If you look after your Honda (regular service etc) it will look after you. My previous Honda was 100k+ bullet proof, oil changes and tyres thats all I had to do.
Reliable good automatic gearbox comfortable drive well pleased
