Immaculate and perfect. Better than my previous CRV. However the knobs and whistles take a while to get used to.

Honda CR-V (2026) Pros and Cons
| Pros | Cons |
|---|---|
| Efficient hybrid and plug-in hybrid powertrains | Rivals are cheaper to buy |
| Very roomy interior | Hybrid is noisy when accelerating hard |
| Big and practical boot | Infotainment now lags behind best in class |
Quick Summary
The Honda CR-V (2026) is a premium Japanese family SUV that has evolved significantly from its practical roots. This sixth-generation model is longer, wider, and more spacious than its predecessor, with commanding presence and assertive styling that rivals premium-badged alternatives like the BMW X3 and Audi Q5. Available exclusively as hybrid (e:HEV) or plug-in hybrid (e:PHEV) powertrains, the CR-V combines a 2.0-litre petrol engine with electric motors for smooth, efficient power delivery. The plug-in hybrid offers up to 50 miles of electric-only range, whilst the standard hybrid achieves 42.2mpg on mixed driving. Both models feature five seats only, with no seven-seat option available.
The CR-V excels in practicality with exceptional interior space, reclining rear seats that slide fore and aft by 19cm, and a boot capacity of 579–617 litres depending on the model. All variants come well-equipped with heated leather seats, panoramic sunroof, dual-zone climate control, and a 9.0-inch infotainment system with wireless Apple CarPlay. Whilst the ride is comfort-focused and composed, the plug-in hybrid's extra weight can make the suspension feel bouncy on undulating roads. The CR-V represents a solid, easy-to-live-with family SUV, though it lacks the excitement of sportier rivals and comes at a premium price compared to competitors like the Toyota RAV4 and Kia Sportage.
Best for: Families seeking a spacious, practical, and dependable SUV with advanced hybrid technology, particularly those with home charging for the plug-in hybrid variant, and company car drivers benefiting from low CO2 emissions.
Not ideal for: Budget-conscious buyers, those prioritising sporty handling, drivers seeking seven seats, or those wanting the latest infotainment technology.
Comparison vs Key Rivals
| Vehicle | CarGurus Expert Rating | CarGurus User Rating | Good/Great deals % | Overall CarGurus Rating |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Honda CR-V | 4/5 | 4.3/5 | 32.3% | 4.3/5 |
| BMW X3 | 4/5 | 4.4/5 | 32.9% | 4.3/5 |
| Skoda Kodiaq | 4/5 | 4.8/5 | 44.1% | 4.5/5 |
| Toyota RAV4 | 4/5 | 4.7/5 | 34.3% | 4.3/5 |
The Verdict
You should buy the CR-V if: You're seeking a spacious, practical, and dependable family SUV with advanced hybrid technology, particularly with home charging for the plug-in variant, or if you're a company car driver benefiting from low CO2 emissions.
Consider alternatives if: You're budget-conscious, prioritise sporty handling, need seven seats, or want the latest infotainment technology.
Competitive Position: The Honda CR-V (2026) is a strong contender in the premium family SUV segment, offering exceptional practicality, efficient powertrains, and comprehensive standard equipment. Whilst it commands a higher price than rivals like the Toyota RAV4 and Kia Sportage, it delivers greater luxury and technology. The Skoda Kodiaq offers better value and seven-seat flexibility, whilst the BMW X3 provides premium badge appeal. However, the CR-V's combination of spaciousness, hybrid efficiency, and dependability makes it an excellent choice for families prioritising comfort and practicality over sportiness or budget considerations.
