Kia Stonic (2026) Pros and Cons

Pros	Cons
Generous seven-year warranty	Rear seat space could be better
Good to drive	Limited choice of engines
Facelifted looks are smart and eye-catching	No hybrid option

Quick Summary

The Kia Stonic is a smart-looking small SUV that received a comprehensive facelift in 2026. With striking LED lights, a bolder front end inspired by the Kia EV9, and a thoroughly overhauled interior featuring a 12.3-inch widescreen infotainment system, the Stonic offers a modern and upmarket feel. It follows the small crossover SUV template faithfully, providing a higher-riding stance than a regular supermini whilst remaining easy to park and fuss-free to live with. The commanding driving position gives confidence on the road, and the 352-litre boot expands to 1,155 litres with the 60:40 split rear seats folded.

The Kia Stonic is powered by a 1.0-litre three-cylinder turbo petrol engine with 96bhp, which proves sprightly in everyday use once the turbo comes on boost. It rides nicely over broken British roads and is pleasing to drive, though it isn't as sharp as rivals like the Ford Puma. All models feature comprehensive safety assist technology, and the range includes three trim levels: Pure, GT-Line, and GT-Line S. With fuel consumption averaging around 50mpg on paper, reasonable insurance groups, and competitive fixed-price servicing plans, running costs are sensible. The generous seven-year warranty and strong reliability record provide peace of mind, making the Stonic an excellent all-rounder in the small SUV sector.

Best for: Buyers seeking a compact alternative to a supermini, those wanting a modern-looking small SUV with good standard equipment, and drivers prioritising reliability and warranty cover.

Not ideal for: Those needing maximum rear seat space, buyers wanting engine variety or hybrid options, or drivers seeking the sharpest handling dynamics.

Comparison vs Key Rivals

The Verdict

You should buy the Stonic if: You're seeking a compact alternative to a supermini, want a modern-looking small SUV with good standard equipment, or prioritise reliability and warranty cover.

Consider alternatives if: You need maximum rear seat space, want engine variety or hybrid options, or seek the sharpest handling dynamics.

Competitive Position: The Kia Stonic is a very good all-rounder in the small SUV sector. Its smart facelift, comprehensive standard equipment, and generous seven-year warranty make it an attractive proposition. Whilst the Ford Puma offers sharper handling and the Volkswagen T-Cross provides premium appeal, the Stonic delivers excellent value and reliability. It deserves serious consideration on any small SUV shortlist, particularly for buyers prioritising peace of mind and modern styling over outright driving dynamics.
