MINI Countryman (2024-present) Pros and Cons
| Pros | Cons |
|---|---|
| Lots of interior space | Interior doesn't impress as much for quality |
| Well equipped | Infotainment has some ergonomic issues |
| Very stylish interior | Many rivals ride more comfortably |
Quick Summary
The MINI Countryman (2024-present) is the third-generation version of MINI's family SUV, significantly larger than its predecessor with generous interior space and practicality. The range includes three petrol variants—the entry-level C, mid-range S, and high-performance John Cooper Works (JCW)—alongside two all-electric versions: the E and SE. With its distinctive circular OLED infotainment screen, stylish interior design, and comprehensive standard equipment, the Countryman combines MINI's cheeky character with modern family-car practicality. The C model delivers 168bhp with adequate performance, whilst the JCW offers 296bhp and all-wheel drive for a more thrilling drive.
The Countryman excels in space and equipment, with a sliding rear seat option on some models and a decent boot with additional underfloor storage. Fuel economy ranges from 46.3mpg for the C to 36.2mpg for the JCW, whilst the electric variants offer up to 287 miles of range with rapid DC charging capability. However, some interior plastics lack the premium quality expected of the MINI brand, the infotainment system can be confusing to navigate, and the ride is notably firm. Despite these limitations, the Countryman delivers excellent practicality without sacrificing MINI's distinctive style and character, making it an appealing choice for families seeking a premium compact SUV.
Best for: Families wanting MINI's cheeky character in a practical, spacious package; those prioritising stylish design and comprehensive standard equipment; buyers seeking an electric family SUV with decent range.
Not ideal for: Those expecting premium interior quality throughout; drivers prioritising a comfortable, compliant ride; users seeking an intuitive infotainment system without learning curves.

|---|---|---|---|---|
| MINI Countryman | 4/5 | 4.6/5 | 33.9% | 4.3/5 |

The Verdict
You should buy the Countryman if: You want MINI's distinctive character in a practical, spacious family SUV, prioritise stylish design and comprehensive standard equipment, or seek an electric family SUV with decent range.
Consider alternatives if: You expect premium interior quality throughout, prioritise a comfortable, compliant ride, or require an intuitive infotainment system without learning curves.
Competitive Position: The MINI Countryman (2024-present) is a strong contender in the compact premium SUV segment, offering excellent practicality, distinctive styling, and comprehensive standard equipment. Whilst the BMW X1 edges ahead with a higher overall rating and more comfortable ride, and rivals like the Mercedes-Benz GLA offer marginally better value, the Countryman's unique character, spacious interior, and stylish design make it an appealing choice for families seeking something different. The availability of electric variants and the JCW's performance credentials further strengthen its position, though interior quality and infotainment usability remain areas where competitors have the edge.

The MINI Mini Countryman is highly regarded for its fun driving experience, comfort, and stylish design. Many owners appreciate its nippy performance and the added height that makes it feel more like an SUV. However, some have expressed concerns about visibility in tight spots and the overall price, especially when factoring in additional features that may not be standard. Overall, it's a compact SUV that balances practicality and enjoyment.

What people say
We love our Mini Countryman. I have owned Minis since the very first one came out in the 1960s I have owned other cars including BMWs and Mercedes but I always have a soft spot for Minis as they are good value for money, stylish, classless and fun to drive.
This 2.0 litre model performs extremely well as one would expect for a Cooper S variant, despite the size of the car. It has good acceleration, amazing stopping power and feels like a much bigger car. Overall, this car exceeded my expectation.
The inside of the 5 door felt incredibly cramped, very little room for a bale of hay. I find the 3 door is much more versatile.
It is a lovely car and i was interested but found one somewhere else Thank you
Great car , economical , easy to drive with all the features you need . I don’t want to drive anything else ….. I love it
