Nissan Micra (2026) Pros and Cons

Pros	Cons
Great to drive	Lacks the Renault 5's wow factor
Smart interior	Citroën e-C3 has a more spacious boot
Comfortable ride	Rear doors could open wider

Quick Summary

The Nissan Micra (2026) is a stylish, battery electric supermini that combines retro-inspired design with modern technology. Based on the same platform as the Renault 5, it offers a 40kWh or 52kWh lithium battery with real-world ranges of approximately 150 miles and 190–230 miles respectively. The Micra delivers engaging, fun-to-drive dynamics with a compliant yet controlled suspension, keen turn-in, and light, precise steering. With three-level brake regeneration via steering wheel paddles, it provides an intuitive driving experience. The 326-litre boot is one of the largest in its class, and the smart interior features Google Maps integration, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, plus optional vehicle-to-load charging.

Available in three trim levels—Engage, Advance, and Evolve—the Micra starts from just over £21,000 with the government EV grant applied. Lease deals are available from under £200 per month, making it approximately £60 per month cheaper than equivalent Renault 5 leases. All models include advanced safety systems such as adaptive cruise control, lane-keep assist, and autonomous emergency braking. Heated seats and steering wheel are available from mid-spec upwards. As a practical, well-equipped, and enjoyable electric city car, the Micra represents excellent value for budget-conscious EV buyers seeking style and substance.

Best for: EV buyers seeking an affordable, fun-to-drive supermini with smart technology, those wanting excellent lease deals, and drivers prioritising practicality and comfort in a compact package.

Not ideal for: Buyers requiring maximum rear legroom, those seeking the distinctive retro appeal of the Renault 5, or drivers needing a petrol engine option.

Comparison vs Key Rivals

The Verdict

You should buy the Micra if: You're seeking an affordable, fun-to-drive electric supermini with smart technology, excellent lease deals, and practical everyday usability in a stylish package.

Consider alternatives if: You require maximum rear legroom, desire the distinctive retro appeal of the Renault 5, or need a petrol engine option.

Competitive Position: The Nissan Micra (2026) is a strong contender in the affordable electric supermini market, offering excellent value and engaging driving dynamics. Whilst the Renault 5 edges ahead with its distinctive retro charm and marginally higher ratings, the Micra undercuts it on lease pricing and delivers comparable practicality. Against the Fiat Grande Panda and BYD Dolphin, the Micra combines superior driving engagement with a well-appointed interior and Google-integrated infotainment. For budget-conscious EV buyers prioritising fun, comfort, and technology over premium badge appeal, the Micra represents an excellent choice.
