Omoda 7 (2026) Pros and Cons

Pros	Cons
Impressive space and practicality	Too reliant on the touchscreen
Lots of kit for a low price	Quality is patchy in some areas
Decent to drive

Quick Summary

The Omoda 7 (2026) is a spacious and well-equipped family SUV that offers exceptional value for money. Available with both petrol and plug-in hybrid powertrains, it delivers impressive practicality with a 639-litre boot in petrol form and 590 litres in PHEV versions. The interior features improved material quality compared to earlier Chinese SUVs, with comfortable seating for five and a modern touchscreen-dominated dashboard. The plug-in hybrid variant is particularly impressive, offering 201bhp, seamless acceleration, and up to 56 miles of electric-only range, making it an efficient choice for regular commuters who can charge regularly.

At under £30,000 for the entry-level model, the Omoda 7 represents outstanding value, though this comes with some compromises. The ride can be firm and occasionally harsh over poor road surfaces, and the infotainment system's complexity requires frequent touchscreen interaction. Build quality shows occasional niggles, including trim rattles and windscreen wipers that don't reach the screen edges. Service intervals are every 10,000 miles, and the timing chain design helps keep long-term maintenance costs manageable. For budget-conscious buyers prioritising space and equipment over premium refinement, the Omoda 7 is a compelling proposition.

Best for: Budget-conscious families seeking maximum space and equipment, buyers interested in plug-in hybrid technology at an affordable price, and those willing to overlook minor quality issues for exceptional value.

Not ideal for: Buyers prioritising premium build quality, those seeking a refined and quiet ride, or drivers who prefer physical controls over extensive touchscreen interaction.

Comparison vs Key Rivals

The Verdict

You should buy the Omoda 7 if: You're seeking maximum space and equipment on a tight budget, interested in plug-in hybrid technology at an affordable price, or willing to overlook minor quality niggles for exceptional value.

Consider alternatives if: You prioritise premium build quality, prefer a refined and quiet ride, or require extensive physical controls rather than touchscreen interaction.

Competitive Position: The Omoda 7 (2026) is a compelling value proposition in the family SUV market, offering impressive space, generous equipment, and an efficient plug-in hybrid option at a significantly lower price than established rivals. Whilst it lacks the premium refinement of the Kia Sportage or the driving dynamics of the Ford Kuga, its affordability and practicality make it an attractive choice for budget-conscious families. The plug-in hybrid powertrain is particularly noteworthy, delivering smooth acceleration and low running costs for regular commuters. However, potential buyers should be prepared to accept occasional quality inconsistencies and a touchscreen-heavy interface in exchange for outstanding value.
