Peugeot 308 (2022-present) Pros and Cons
| Pros | Cons |
|---|---|
| Hi-tech interior | Rivals offer better practicality |
| Wide engine range | Quirky driving position won't suit everybody |
| Cost-effective to run | Choppy low speed ride |
Quick Summary
The Peugeot 308 (2022-present) is the third generation of this familiar family hatchback, representing a significant step upmarket for the brand. It features striking styling with trademark LED 'claw' lights and a minimalist, screen-focused interior that feels classy and modern. The 308 is offered with a 1.2-litre turbo petrol, 1.5 diesel, plug-in hybrid with up to 37 miles of electric range, or a fully electric e-308 with over 250 miles of range. All models come with an eight-speed automatic gearbox as standard, and an estate version (308 SW) is available for those seeking maximum practicality with 660 litres of boot space.
The 308 offers an appealing blend of style, technology, and reasonable running costs, making it a desirable family hatchback. It delivers a more enthusiastic drive than expected, with keen steering response and a darty feel through corners, though it's not quite as fun as hot hatch rivals. The plush interior with tactile finishes and comprehensive infotainment system are major selling points, though the unconventional small steering wheel and touchscreen-focused controls may not suit everyone. Running costs are competitive, with the petrol achieving around 40mpg in real-world driving and the diesel closer to 50mpg, whilst plug-in hybrid and electric versions offer excellent efficiency for regular home charging users.
Best for: Style-conscious buyers seeking a modern, hi-tech family hatchback with low running costs, those interested in plug-in hybrid or electric powertrains, and drivers who value premium interior quality and design.
Not ideal for: Buyers prioritising maximum practicality, those uncomfortable with unconventional driving positions, or drivers seeking the sharpest handling dynamics in the class.

The Verdict
You should buy the 308 if: You value striking design and hi-tech interiors, seek a modern family hatchback with diverse powertrain options, or want cost-effective running costs with premium feel.
Consider alternatives if: You prioritise maximum practicality, prefer conventional driving positions, or demand the sharpest handling in the class.
Competitive Position: The Peugeot 308 (2022-present) is a stylish and desirable family hatchback that stands out for its premium interior quality and modern technology. Whilst it may not match the Ford Focus for driving dynamics or offer the practicality of some rivals, its striking design, wide engine range including plug-in hybrid and electric options, and competitive running costs make it an excellent choice for style-conscious buyers. The 308 SW estate variant also provides a practical alternative for those needing extra space, making the 308 range highly recommendable for those who appreciate its distinctive character and modern approach to family motoring.

What people say
Really liking this car so far, it’s exactly what I was looking for and the hybrid side I’m actually surprised about.
Love the Peugout 308 nice to drive, nice interior. Good value for money for the age of the car and mileage. Handles well on country roads.
It’s a very comfortable, safe and secure vehicle for all type of driver and age. I would never change it for any other model in its category. I would sell it only because I live in Italy now and the steering wheel is on the right side.
This was the gti 260 registered 30/12/20. The 3rd Id owned in just over 2 years, great performance car, well equipped & fully loaded as standard, beautiful interior & lovely supporting sports seats. A real wolf in sheeps clothing, comfortable economic & fun to drive.... Will probably buy another!!
Great and comfortable drive for its price. Economical, good space for driver, passenger and good boot space for the car category. Also looks good on the outside
