Porsche Cayenne (2018-present) Pros and Cons
| Pros | Cons |
|---|---|
| Brilliant to drive | Divisive styling |
| Tremendous performance | Costly to run |
| Spacious and practical | The smaller Porsche Macan is more agile |
Quick Summary
The Porsche Cayenne (2018-present) is the third-generation model of this upmarket high-performance SUV, featuring a new platform, turbocharged V6 engines, and modern styling. It is up to 65kg lighter than its predecessor whilst offering a more spacious interior and larger 770-litre boot. Two versions were initially offered: the Cayenne with a 335bhp turbocharged 3.0-litre V6 and the Cayenne S with a 435bhp twin-turbo 2.9-litre V6. The range later expanded to include the GTS, Turbo, E-Hybrid, and Turbo S E-Hybrid variants, plus the sleeker Cayenne Coupe launched in 2019.
The Cayenne combines the space and practicality of a large SUV with genuine driving thrills, offering impressive performance across all variants. Even the entry-level model accelerates from 0-62mph in 6.2 seconds, whilst the Turbo S E-Hybrid achieves 3.8 seconds. The steering is quick and responsive, with strong grip and excellent body control through corners. It transforms into a refined executive express when driven gently, with adaptive dampers providing a supple ride. Running costs are expensive due to poor fuel economy on petrol models, though the E-Hybrid offers better efficiency. Servicing is required every 20,000 miles or two years, with strong residual values helping offset ownership costs.
Best for: Buyers seeking an upmarket, high-performance SUV that is rewarding to drive, spacious, and practical for family use, or those wanting a luxury alternative to the Range Rover Velar or Bentley Bentayga.
Not ideal for: Budget-conscious buyers, those prioritising fuel economy on petrol models, or drivers seeking a more agile SUV (the smaller Porsche Macan may be preferable).

The Verdict
You should buy the Cayenne if: You seek an upmarket, high-performance SUV that is rewarding to drive, spacious, and practical for family use, or want a luxury alternative to the Range Rover Velar or Bentley Bentayga.
Consider alternatives if: You are budget-conscious, prioritise fuel economy on petrol models, or need a more agile SUV (the smaller Porsche Macan may be preferable).
Competitive Position: The Porsche Cayenne (2018-present) is a very talented upmarket SUV that combines rewarding driving dynamics with impressive performance, spaciousness, and practicality. Whilst it is costly to run and features divisive styling, its five-star Euro NCAP safety rating and broad range of specifications make it a compelling rival to the Range Rover Velar, BMW X5, and Mercedes-Benz GLE. The breadth of the Cayenne range means the right specification can rival even the Bentley Bentayga and Lamborghini Urus, though running costs remain a significant consideration.

5 Overall rating
(3 reviews)Drives well, good fuel economy for the weight considering it’s petrol powered. Rather rapid, very well built.
The only thing I can fault on this amazing machine is the Bluetooth media player occasionally doesnt connect but it just gives you another reason to wind down the windows and listen to the symphony produced by Porsches amazing 4.8 GTS V8
comfortable and luxurious interior, build quality and surprisingly good fuel consumption.
