Porsche Cayenne (2018-present) Pros and Cons
| Pros | Cons |
|---|---|
| Brilliant to drive | Divisive styling |
| Tremendous performance | Costly to run |
| Spacious and practical | The smaller Porsche Macan is more agile |
Quick Summary
The Porsche Cayenne (2018-present) is the third-generation of Porsche's high-performance SUV, introduced in August 2017. It received a new platform, updated turbocharged V6 engine line-up, modern looks, and improved practicality, including a more spacious interior and a larger 770-litre boot, while being up to 65kg lighter than its predecessor. The range expanded to include GTS, Turbo, E-Hybrid, and the sleeker Coupe variants, with the GT model standing out for keen drivers.
The Cayenne excels in combining the practicality and comfort of a large SUV with genuine driving thrills, making it rewarding and compelling to drive. While running costs are high, especially for conventional petrol models due to weight and power, E-Hybrid versions offer better efficiency. Strong residual values help offset some ownership expenses. It's a high-quality, safe, and versatile SUV capable of handling daily family life, with a broad range to suit various performance needs.
Best for: Drivers seeking an upmarket, high-performance SUV with genuine driving thrills, families needing a spacious and practical vehicle, and those looking for a versatile SUV capable of daily use and long-distance comfort.
Not ideal for: Budget-conscious buyers due to high running costs and purchase price, those who need Android Auto compatibility on older models (before PCM 6.0), or buyers expecting extensive standard equipment without ticking expensive option boxes.

The Verdict
You should buy the Cayenne if: You seek a rewarding, high-performance, spacious, and practical luxury SUV, or an exciting GT model.
Consider alternatives if: You are on a strict budget, require lower running costs, or expect a more extensive standard equipment list.
Competitive Position: The Porsche Cayenne (2018-present) stands out as a highly capable and versatile upmarket SUV, offering an exceptional blend of driving dynamics, performance, practicality, and comfort. While it comes with a premium price tag and high running costs, its strong residual values and broad model range, including efficient E-Hybrid options and the track-focused GT, make it a compelling choice against rivals like the BMW X5, Range Rover Sport, and Mercedes-Benz GLE, especially for those prioritising driving engagement.

4.5 Overall rating
(10 reviews)Drives well, good fuel economy for the weight considering it’s petrol powered. Rather rapid, very well built.
The only thing I can fault on this amazing machine is the Bluetooth media player occasionally doesnt connect but it just gives you another reason to wind down the windows and listen to the symphony produced by Porsches amazing 4.8 GTS V8
comfortable and luxurious interior, build quality and surprisingly good fuel consumption.
A bit pricey considering the wear & tear of the car.
Comfortable always great spec and power where needed as you would expect from porche
