Great value and the Ultimate is well equipped with everything that will ever be needed. Hyundai quality has developed and now competes alongside other more costly brands. The 5 year warranty is a big plus. Looking forward to some economical and practical motoring in the Tucson

Hyundai Tucson (2021-present) Pros and Cons
| Pros | Cons |
|---|---|
| Lots of standard kit | Not all that fun to drive |
| Five-year warranty | Unsettled ride on big 19-inch wheels |
| Choice of hybrid powertrains | Plug-in hybrid range not a match for best in class |
Quick Summary
The Hyundai Tucson (2021-present) is a midsize family SUV that has evolved significantly since its introduction in 2004. The current generation, which arrived in early 2021 and received a facelift in mid-2024, represents a major step up in quality and aspiration. With distinctive styling featuring segmented lights, prominent grille, and striking Coke-bottle curves, the Tucson now competes not just with the Ford Kuga and Skoda Karoq, but also with premium brands like Audi Q3 and BMW X1. The post-facelift interior is particularly impressive, featuring a curved infotainment setup with twin 12.3-inch screens that ranks among the best on the market.
Space is generous throughout, with ample legroom and headroom for passengers and a boot offering up to 620-litres of luggage space. The Tucson is powered by a 1.6-litre turbocharged petrol engine available in multiple configurations, including mild hybrid, self-charging hybrid, and plug-in hybrid options. It's an easygoing companion on the road, smooth and quiet, though not particularly engaging to drive. Running costs are competitive, with mild-hybrid models achieving around 43.5mpg and self-charging hybrids exceeding 50mpg. The plug-in hybrid offers impressive claimed efficiency figures of over 200mpg with frequent charging. All models come with generous standard equipment, including leather-wrapped steering wheel, DAB, Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, satnav, and dual-zone climate control.
Best for: Families seeking a spacious, well-equipped SUV with modern technology, buyers wanting hybrid powertrain options, and those prioritising comfort and practicality over driving engagement.
Not ideal for: Drivers seeking an engaging, fun-to-drive experience, those sensitive to ride quality on larger wheels, or buyers needing class-leading plug-in hybrid range.

The Verdict
You should buy the Tucson if: You're seeking a spacious, well-equipped family SUV with modern technology, want hybrid powertrain options, or prioritise comfort and practicality.
Consider alternatives if: You desire an engaging, fun-to-drive experience, are sensitive to ride quality on larger wheels, or need class-leading plug-in hybrid range.
Competitive Position: The Hyundai Tucson (2021-present) is a strong contender in the midsize family SUV market, offering excellent value and generous standard equipment. Whilst the Volkswagen Tiguan edges ahead with a slightly higher overall rating and the Kia Sportage matches it on expert rating, the Tucson holds its own with impressive user ratings and competitive deal availability. It represents a significant step up in quality and aspiration from previous generations, making it a compelling choice for families prioritising space, technology, and practicality over driving dynamics.
