Pity it is not available new. 3.5 tonnes towing, in a smaller build size, like the D21 had, would sell well with farmers, the one I have purchased is plenty big enough, bordering on clumsy, but there are not many options, Ford are unreliable engines, Toyota out priced, Isuzu unreliable and expensive repairs, will not have another!

Nissan Navara (2014-2022) Pros and Cons
| Pros | Cons |
|---|---|
| Large load bed and generous payload | Apple CarPlay and Android Auto weren't available before 2019 facelift |
| More car-like to drive than most pick-ups | The SsangYong Musso has a longer warranty |
| Punchy and fuel-efficient diesel engine | Not as wieldy as a conventional SUV |
Quick Summary
The Nissan Navara (2014-2022) is Nissan's popular pick-up truck, which has become increasingly sought-after in the UK thanks to favourable tax treatment. Available in both double-cab and king-cab body styles, the double-cab is more popular, offering four doors and decent rear-seat space. The Navara stands out in the pick-up class for its car-like driving experience, courtesy of coil-spring rear suspension rather than traditional leaf springs. Its 2.3-litre diesel engine is available with either 161bhp or 187bhp, delivering strong torque figures of 313lb ft or 332lb ft respectively, making it more powerful than many rivals whilst maintaining excellent fuel economy.
Practicality is a genuine strength, with the double-cab offering payloads of 1,115kg to 1,180kg (post-2019 facelift) and towing capacity up to 3,500kg. The Navara achieves impressive fuel economy for a commercial vehicle, with early models returning 44.9mpg and later examples achieving 40.4mpg to 46.3mpg depending on specification. Service intervals are competitive at 12,500 miles or two years for later models, helping keep running costs low. Most models feature a six-speed manual gearbox, with a seven-speed automatic available on high-spec double-cabs. Safety is respectable with a four out of five Euro NCAP rating and autonomous emergency braking on higher specifications.
Best for: Commercial users, those requiring a spacious load bed and generous payload, buyers seeking low running costs, and those preferring a more car-like driving experience in a pick-up truck.
Not ideal for: Those wanting the latest infotainment technology on pre-facelift models, buyers prioritising maximum warranty length, or those seeking the manoeuvrability of a conventional SUV.
Comparison vs Key Rivals

|---|---|---|---|---|
| Nissan Navara | 4/5 | 4.1/5 | 55.1% | 4.3/5 |
| Ford Ranger | 4/5 | 4.8/5 | 64.0% | 4.5/5 |

| Mitsubishi L200 | 3/5 | 4.4/5 | 52.2% | 4.2/5 |
The Verdict
You should buy the Navara if: You require a spacious load bed and generous payload, seek low running costs, prefer a more car-like driving experience in a pick-up truck, or need a practical commercial vehicle.
Consider alternatives if: You prioritise the latest infotainment technology, require maximum warranty length, or need the manoeuvrability of a conventional SUV.
Competitive Position: The Nissan Navara (2014-2022) is a well-rounded pick-up truck that excels as an all-rounder. Whilst the Ford Ranger scores higher on user ratings and value, the Navara offers superior driving comfort and fuel efficiency compared to most rivals. Its punchy diesel engine, generous payload, and low running costs make it a sensible choice for commercial users and those seeking practicality. The Volkswagen Amarok provides more power but at the cost of fuel economy, whilst the Mitsubishi L200 offers less impressive performance. The Navara strikes an excellent balance between capability, comfort, and cost-effectiveness.
