Really liking this car so far, it’s exactly what I was looking for and the hybrid side I’m actually surprised about.

Love the Peugout 308 nice to drive, nice interior. Good value for money for the age of the car and mileage. Handles well on country roads.

It’s a very comfortable, safe and secure vehicle for all type of driver and age. I would never change it for any other model in its category. I would sell it only because I live in Italy now and the steering wheel is on the right side.

Peugeot 308 Pros and Cons
| Pros | Cons |
|---|---|
| High-tech interior | Rivals offer better practicality |
| Wide range of engines | Quirky driving position won't suit everybody |
| Affordable running costs | Choppy low speed ride |
Quick Summary
The Peugeot 308 is a stylish and broadly defined family hatchback that blends common sense with desirability. Available as a hatchback or estate (308 SW), it offers an appealing high-tech interior with a minimalist, screen-focused dashboard and plush materials. The third-generation model, launched in 2022 and facelifted in 2025, provides a genuinely refreshing level of powertrain choice: electric, petrol hybrid, plug-in hybrid, or diesel options. The e-308 delivers 154bhp with up to 279 miles of range, whilst the plug-in hybrid offers 192bhp and 53 miles of electric-only driving. The petrol hybrid and diesel alternatives provide practical, cost-effective motoring for those preferring traditional fuels.
The 308 offers an engaging drive with responsive steering and a keen turning response, though the unconventional small steering wheel and minimalist interior layout won't suit everyone. Practicality is adequate rather than class-leading, with 412 litres of boot space in standard models, expanding to 599 litres in the estate. Running costs are competitive, with hybrid models achieving 48.5-62.6mpg and plug-in hybrids offering exceptional efficiency when charged regularly. Service plans start from around £8 per month, making ownership affordable. Overall, it's a classy, recommendable choice for those who value style, technology, and reasonable costs over maximum practicality.
Best for: Buyers seeking a stylish, modern family hatchback with excellent technology, those wanting powertrain flexibility, and drivers prioritising affordable running costs and premium interior feel.
Not ideal for: Those requiring maximum boot space, drivers uncomfortable with unconventional driving positions, or buyers seeking the finest handling dynamics in the class.
Comparison vs Key Rivals

|---|---|---|---|---|
| Peugeot 308 | 3/5 | 4.9/5 | 51.9% | 4.3/5 |
| Vauxhall Astra | 3/5 | 4.0/5 | 36.3% | 4.2/5 |
| Volkswagen Golf | 4/5 | 4.7/5 | 37.3% | 4.4/5 |
| Skoda Octavia | 5/5 | 4.6/5 | 38.9% | 4.6/5 |
The Verdict
You should buy the 308 if: You value style and modern technology, seek powertrain flexibility, want affordable running costs, or prefer a premium interior feel in a family hatchback.
Consider alternatives if: You require maximum practicality, prefer conventional driving positions, or prioritise the finest handling dynamics in the class.
Competitive Position: The Peugeot 308 is a strong contender in the family hatchback market, offering exceptional value with a 51.9% good/great deals rating. Whilst the Skoda Octavia leads on expert rating and overall appeal, and the Volkswagen Golf commands premium pricing, the 308 delivers superior user satisfaction (4.9/5) and a more stylish, technology-rich package at competitive costs. It outperforms the Vauxhall Astra on user ratings and value, making it an excellent choice for style-conscious buyers seeking modern features and powertrain variety without premium pricing. The estate option provides practical versatility that rivals struggle to match.
