Peugeot 308 (2022-present) Pros and Cons
| Pros | Cons |
|---|---|
| Hi-tech interior | Rivals offer better practicality |
| Wide engine range | Quirky driving position won't suit everybody |
| Cost-effective to run | Choppy low speed ride |
Quick Summary
The Peugeot 308 (2022-present) is the third generation of this family hatchback, marking a significant step upmarket with its sharp styling and minimalist, screen-focused interior. It offers a range of powertrains including a 1.2-litre turbo petrol, 1.5-litre diesel, and plug-in hybrids (PHEV) with up to 37 miles of electric range, all paired with an eight-speed automatic gearbox. A fully electric e-308 is also available, boasting over 250 miles of range, and there's a practical SW estate version for those needing more space.
While the quirky small steering wheel and i-Cockpit layout might not suit everyone, the 308 delivers an enthusiastic drive with quick steering. Practicality is adequate, with 412 litres of boot space in non-PHEV models (361 litres for PHEVs). Running costs are competitive, with good real-world MPG for petrol and diesel, and very low costs for PHEV and e-308 models when regularly charged at home. The interior feels plush and hi-tech, offering a good balance of equipment across its five trim levels.
Best for: Buyers who value stylish design, a modern and high-tech interior, fuel efficiency (especially PHEV/EV users), and those seeking a versatile estate option.
Not ideal for: Those prioritising maximum rear passenger space or boot capacity (in hatchback form), buyers who dislike the i-Cockpit driving position, or those seeking a true hot hatch driving experience.

Competitive Position: The Peugeot 308 (2022-present) offers an appealing blend of common sense and desirability within the family hatchback segment. It stands out with its stylish looks, pleasant driving dynamics, and a plush, high-tech interior, all while maintaining reasonable purchase and running costs. While some rivals may offer better practicality or a more engaging driving experience, the 308's overall package, especially the versatile SW estate and efficient electrified options, makes it a classy and highly recommendable choice.

4.4 Overall rating
(15 reviews)Really liking this car so far, it’s exactly what I was looking for and the hybrid side I’m actually surprised about.
All round good value, having had one Mar 2012 to current month. Will be getting another. Good to drive. No major mechanical problems in 12 years. Normal expected repairs only.
Very pleased with the car, I part exchangehed a similar model for a newer one, but this time its Petrol driven and last one was Diesal.
Love the Peugout 308 nice to drive, nice interior. Good value for money for the age of the car and mileage. Handles well on country roads.
It’s a very comfortable, safe and secure vehicle for all type of driver and age. I would never change it for any other model in its category. I would sell it only because I live in Italy now and the steering wheel is on the right side.
