Peugeot 308 (2022-present) Pros and Cons
| Pros | Cons |
|---|---|
| Hi-tech interior | Rivals offer better practicality |
| Wide engine range | Quirky driving position won't suit everybody |
| Cost-effective to run | Choppy low speed ride |
Quick Summary
The Peugeot 308 (2022-present) is the third generation of this family hatchback, marking an upscale shift with sharp styling and a minimalist, screen-focused interior. It offers a diverse range of powertrains, including a 1.2-litre turbo petrol, 1.5-litre diesel, two plug-in hybrids with up to 37 miles of electric range, and a fully electric e-308 boasting over 250 miles of range. All models come with an eight-speed automatic gearbox as standard, and a practical SW estate version is also available for increased cargo capacity.
While the 308's plush interior and modern technology are significant selling points, rear seat practicality can be snug for taller adults, though the boot is a decent 412 litres (361 litres for PHEV models). Driving dynamics are agile thanks to quick steering, but the PHEV versions, despite their power, don't deliver a true 'hot hatch' feel. Running costs are competitive, with good real-world fuel economy for petrol and diesel, and strong potential savings for PHEV and e-308 users who can charge regularly at home.
Best for: Drivers seeking a stylish, modern, and refined family hatchback with advanced technology; those interested in efficient plug-in hybrid or electric options; buyers who appreciate a comfortable ride and agile handling.
Not ideal for: Taller passengers needing generous rear headroom and legroom; those who find the i-Cockpit driving position (small steering wheel, high-set dials) uncomfortable or distracting; buyers prioritising maximum boot space without opting for the SW estate, particularly with PHEV models.

The Verdict
You should buy the 308 if: You're looking for a stylish, modern, and refined family hatchback with advanced technology, interested in efficient hybrid/electric options, or appreciate a comfortable ride and agile handling.
Consider alternatives if: You need generous rear headroom and legroom for taller passengers, dislike the i-Cockpit driving position, or require maximum boot space without opting for the SW estate, especially with PHEV models.
Competitive Position: The Peugeot 308 (2022-present) stands out in the family hatchback segment for its bold styling, upscale interior, and diverse powertrain options, including efficient PHEV and full EV variants. While it offers a refined and agile driving experience, some rivals may offer superior rear practicality or a more conventional driving position. Its competitive running costs and modern tech make it a strong, desirable choice for those seeking a stylish and efficient compact car.

4.4 Overall rating
(15 reviews)Really liking this car so far, it’s exactly what I was looking for and the hybrid side I’m actually surprised about.
All round good value, having had one Mar 2012 to current month. Will be getting another. Good to drive. No major mechanical problems in 12 years. Normal expected repairs only.
Love the Peugout 308 nice to drive, nice interior. Good value for money for the age of the car and mileage. Handles well on country roads.
It’s a very comfortable, safe and secure vehicle for all type of driver and age. I would never change it for any other model in its category. I would sell it only because I live in Italy now and the steering wheel is on the right side.
This was the gti 260 registered 30/12/20. The 3rd Id owned in just over 2 years, great performance car, well equipped & fully loaded as standard, beautiful interior & lovely supporting sports seats. A real wolf in sheeps clothing, comfortable economic & fun to drive.... Will probably buy another!!
