2026 Mitsubishi Outlander PHEV: Price, Specs and Release Date

by Leo Wilkinson

Remember the Mitsubishi Outlander PHEV? It was one of the first mainstream plug-in hybrid (PHEV) models to be sold in the UK, and it was a big seller until the Mitsubishi brand pulled out of the UK altogether in 2021. Now, the Japanese brand has announced that it's returning and that a new version of the Outlander PHEV will be sold here from summer 2026.

Here’s what we know so far about the 2026 Mitsubishi Outlander PHEV.

The Mitsubishi Outlander PHEV that will reach the UK in 2026 bears little relation to the one that was sold here between 2013 and 2021. The new model was introduced in 2022 and has been on sale in Australia, the US and various other markets since then, arriving in some European countries in early 2025. Compared with the previous Mitsubishi Outlander PHEV, the latest Outlander has a much more contemporary look, with split front headlights, black A-pillar and C-pillar trim for a ‘floating roof’ effect and a chunkier appearance overall. It’s based on the same platform as the current Nissan X-Trail, so it packs a lot more high-tech features than the old Outlander.

At just over 4.7 metres long, it’s about the same length as the related Nissan X-Trail, as well as rivals such as the Peugeot 5008 and Skoda Kodiaq.

One area where the 2026 Outlander really moves the game forwards compared with its predecessor is its interior. Where the old car was dated inside, the new one looks clean and modern. The dashboard has a refreshingly simple design, and in addition to a large centre touchscreen there’s a row of physical air-con controls that should keep fans of traditional buttons happy.

Seven-seater versions will be available, whereas the previous Outlander was only offered as a five-seater with plug-in hybrid power.

2026 Mitsubishi Outlander PHEV: engines and driving dynamics

Power for the Outlander PHEV comes from a combination of a 2.4-litre, four-cylinder petrol engine and two electric motors – one at the front and one at the rear. The combined total output is 302bhp and Mitsubishi quotes a 0-60mph time of 7.9 seconds.

Mitsubishi’s Super All Wheel Control (S-AWC) comes as standard. This sophisticated four-wheel drive system constantly adjusts the balance of power between the front and rear wheels – and uses brake-based torque vectoring – to maximise the grip of each individual wheel. It also offers Normal, Eco, Power, Tarmac, Gravel, Snow or Mud settings that allow you to optimise it according to your needs, or the surface you’re driving on.

Mitsubishi Outlander PHEV 2026 side driving 2 Thanks to its powerful electric motors, the Outlander PHEV can stay in EV-only mode at speeds of up to 84mph. There’s also a pure-electric-only range of up to 53 miles, while the Outlander supports higher charging speeds than some PHEV models. Mitsubishi quotes a time of 32 minutes to charge to 80% using a CHAdeMO public charger, or 6.5 hours to charge to 100% using a home charger. Official average fuel economy for European models is 353mpg but, as with any plug-in hybrid, you’ll do extremely well to match that in real-world driving.

2026 Mitsubishi Outlander PHEV: price and release date

The Mitsubishi Outlander PHEV is due on sale in the UK in summer 2026. There’s no word on pricing or spec, but we’d expect all versions to come well-equipped and a starting price of about £40,000 seems likely.

As part of the revival of the brand in the UK, Mitsubishi will also introduce an all-new version of its L200 pickup in summer 2026. Previous L200 models have been very popular in the UK and the latest version has been on sale in some international markets since 2023.

More new Mitsubishi models are expected to follow. As part of the Renault-Nissan-Mitsubishi alliance, a range of rebadged Renaults are already sold as Mitsubishis on the continent. Of these, the Mitsubishi Grandis (a rebadged Renault Symbioz) and the Mitsubishi Eclipse Cross (a rebadged Renault Scenic E-Tech) are the most likely candidates to be introduced to the UK.
